Maple Syrup and friendships flowed at Le Chateau
Montebello, where we held our 27th Annual Log Builder's Conference.
The international flavor was enhanced with people from ten
different countries, and the French culture of Quebec. With
such global interaction, the association is considering a
name change, which was discussed at the conference. The approach
of becoming the Log Builders' Association International is
a future possibility to reflect our membership, which is now
worldwide.
It was a first time that the Timber Framers
and Log Builders shared a pre-conference course. The 'Round
Meets Square' workshop united both to join together their
techniques to create a Gazebo along the Ottawa River for Le
Chateau Montebello. As successful public seminar was delivered
on Sunday, the final day of the conference, and offered an
insight to the industry for those interested in building log
homes in the future.
Official recognition of our growing industry
was evident by the attendance of government representatives
and legislators. As we begin builder certification and international
building standards for log structures, it is imperative to
involve everyone in the industry if we are to ensure positive
growth.
The Association thanks all the sponsors who
made this event possible, including: Schroeder Log Home Suppy,
Log Home Guide, Cadwork, CMHC, Canadian Log Home Supply, EmSeal
Corporation, Graphi-soft, Heartwood Saw, Jonsered & Husqvarna,
The Kemper Co., Keystone Financial Mortgage, Potain Cranes,
Log Home Design Ideas, Log Home Living, Makita Canada, The
Sansin Corp., Trans-Quip Inc., and Wood Iron Finishes Inc.
This conference was developed through exhaustive
efforts, which were realized and enjoyed this past March.
We look forward to the next, for which plans are already in
motion. See you in Banff, Alberta in March/April 2000! Should
you have any suggestions about the schedule, presenters, topics,
etc, call or email the office ASAP. See you there!
