Pre-Conference Workshops

Accelerated Building with Rob Chambers
This 5 day workshop is open to professional log home builders, and will cover accelerated basics, building with openings, floor joists, sill logs, log selection in accelerated buildings, controlling the widest gap, dealing with complex floorplans, scaffolding, drilling holes, and more. A detailed step-by-step workbook will be provided to all workshop participants. A log shell will be accomplished and all participants will receive a step-by-step workbook.

ArchiCAD by Graphisoft with Pal Sazbo & Chris Clark
This course will provide instruction, demonstration and hands on experience. Bring your computer and experience, and plan to finish with enough skills to create a log home model. Topics to be covered include: setting up a template file, building a sample log home, creating drawings, creating virtual reality (VR) scenes, importing and exporting files; presentation layouts in plotmaker, creating your own custom log home objects.

POSTPONED! Log Grading Certification with Dr. Edwin Burke
Open to a maximum of 20 students, this program will provide participants with a certificate from the Log Home Council Grading Program. Attendees should have some experience in log yards. Participants will learn specifics on how to select the next log efficiently and effectively for log building projects. Log purchasing will also be addressed. Past participants of this certification course have realized improved management in their yards.

Public Seminar - Sunday, April 8th, 2001
Log home lovers will be taken through the land acquisition, site planning and log home design process by log home specialists in the industry. Learn to catalog your ideas, assess your needs, work with your building site and coalesce it all into an understandable package. Consumers will learn the building process for a log home from professionals who have been providing this service for clients from all over the world. Learn to choose a log building type, style and wood species, select a builder, negotiate agreements, assess costs, finish and furnish the building and, finally, maintain a log building. Company members of the association will also have photos and informative brochures on display!

  • 9:30am - 10:30am Social hour for consumers and professionals to enjoy a cup of coffee and discuss ideas informally!
  • 10:30am - 12:30pm Getting a Log Home Designed & Built (Part I)
  • 12:30pm - 1:30pm Lunch (included with seminar package)
  • 1:30pm - 4:00pm Getting a Log Home Designed & Built (Part II)
