Pre-Conference Survey - 10Kb PDF
Our Planning Committee is working diligently to come up with seminars that are of interest to all of you. Attached is an "Interest Survey" requiring a response from you. We need to know as soon as possible if you seriously plan to attend the seminars that we have listed. Please respond either "yes" or "no" for each seminar so we know everyone received this message.

The ILBA and the GLLCA are having a first-ever joint conference. The location is in a beautiful forested area of northern Wisconsin. Pine-studded forests and plenty of open space set the stage for this year's gathering of many of the finest log builders in the world!

The resort offers swimming/whirlpool/sauna - splash, soak, swim, steam or just relax poolside. Telemark's indoor pool is great fun for all ages. The shallow end accommodates all but the youngest kids and the deep end is ample for diving. The whirlpool and sauna are great places to sooth tired muscles.

Now's the perfect time to take advantage of the hiking and mountain biking trails or some canoeing down the Namekagon & White Rivers. Fishing season opens in early May. Beautiful golf courses are ready for play, plus there are many great shops, restaurants and other area attractions!

The conference will focus on many aspects of the industry: crane certification, SketchUp seminar, chainsaw sharpening, engineering, blower-door house testing, accidents & PPE, log restoration, Sill log layout, Tech-Talk and much more. There is indeed something for everyone. Our schedule this year will have you wanting to bring additional staff to take in all the various valuable training being offered. Family is also very welcome to attend, Join us on Thursday, May 7th, through Saturday, May 9th 2009 to enjoy comfort amidst the warm fellowship of other ILBA and GLLCA members. .

Log Builder Games
This event is a great way to show off your skills, and demonstrate jobsite efficiency with other builders. It's safe, fun and well organized with official rules. The Grand Champion will go home with a new saw; will it be you? Safety gear must be worn to compete, and you are encouraged to bring your own equipment. Please indicate your desire to participate by filling in the appropriate form when you arrive at the conference. This event is open to all ILBA and GLLCA members attending the full conference. The Log Builder awards will then be handed out on Saturday evening.

Air Accessibility

  • Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) - 3 hrs driving time to Cable, WI
  • Duluth International Airport (DLH) - 1.5 hrs driving to Cable WI
  • Rental cars are available at airports.

The ILBA conference was originally planned to be in the Great Lakes area, and coincided closely with the timing of the Great Lakes Log Crafters Annual Bash, so we were delighted when the Great Lakes Log Crafters Association (GLLCA) suggested we join them!

Our destination is in the heart of the region, and is rich with the traditions of log building. Northern Wisconsin, from Cable to Oulu to Duluth has hundreds of historic log homes, barns, and saunas built by the Finnish people who settled the area. And it's very high-quality, full-scribe-fit construction.

You can look forward to a relaxed grass-roots gathering with comfortable accommodations at the Telemark Resort. Consider coming early for the pre-conference Crane Safety Course, and start practicing now for the Log Builder Games. Conference updates and activities will be forwarded to you by e-mail, and posted on the ILBA website.

Take advantage of the location and timing of this year's AGM and Conference - local activities include fishing, hiking, biking, and golf. There are hundreds of lakes in this holiday area. You can also rent kayaks and canoes, or take guided expeditions.

To learn more about our destination: and

To get to the Telemark Resort, fly to Duluth "DLH" (then a 1.5 hour drive), Minneapolis "MSP" (a 3.5 hour drive), or Thunder Bay, Ontario "YQT", (a 5.5 hour drive).

Limousine Service from Duluth to Cable

Driving time is 1 1/2 hours from the Duluth International Airport to Telemark lodge in Cable, Wisconsin and this company charges for driving time only. The hourly rate is for the vehicle itself and it doesn't matter how many passengers. Even if only one person is transported its less money than a regular cab ride.

For Example:
Chrysler Sedan 300 seating 10-12 is $65/hour so the trip costs $97.50 (plus tax & tip)
Lincoln Navigator seating 15 is $75/hour so the trip costs $112.50 (plus tax & tip)
H2 Hummer seating 24 is $100/hour so the trip costs $150 (plus tax & tip) .

A trip in the Chrysler 300 by one person is less cost than taking a regular taxi. The more people who can travel together the better as they split the cost. It's definitely luxury travel and riders have refreshments from the refrigerator, plus they can bring their own champagne, etc. See their website for more detail and pictures/descriptions of the limousines.
