In 1974, around Thanksgiving, Mary and Allan Mackie, Vic Janzen, Bernie
Legault, Fergus O’Connor, Ed Campbell, and Art Long decided to form an
association on for log home builders. The CLBA was born, and that 1974
gathering was our 1st meeting.
That means that in 2013 we will have our 40th annual conference.
This time we will meet at the Prescott Resort in Arizona - a venue that we
all really liked a few years ago. Home to “red rock” granite country.
Petroglyphs. Golf. The famous Palace Saloon, on Prescott’s Whiskey Row, is
where Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday were regulars in the 1870’s. These
frontier lawmen called The Palace their “local watering hole” When there was
a fire, a hundred years ago, the patrons carried the bar out into the street
to save it. The Palace is still a popular. In fact, a few log builders
belliedup to the Palace bar last time the ILBA met in Arizona. We quenched
our powerful thirsts (with local craft-beer, not rockgut), and then settled
into a booth for a round of grilled, thick steaks. We kept our eyes on the
door, of course. It’s the Wild West bring it on!
The ILBA has scored some excellent room rates for the conference, and with
bargain flights to, and cheap rental cars in, Las Vegas or Phoenix, this
will be an affordable conference. So, Log Fitters, pack your bags for
Arizona, and don’t leave your families behind. With the Grand Canyon’s South
Rim only a short drive away it’s both a family vacation and a business
write-off.
This will be a trip, and a conference, to remember!
