The International Log Builders Association,
founded in 1974 as the Canadian Log Builders Association,
is a world-wide organization devoted to furthering the craft
of log construction. The ILBA is a registered non-profit Society
in Canada and the United States. The ILBA writes and distributes
educational material on log construction to individuals, institutions,
and the industry. The organization is dedicated to the advancement
of Log Builders and to promoting the highest standards of
the trade.
It is the responsibility of every builder to
understand and to conform to the best practices of the trade.
These are minimum Standards for residential, hand-crafted,
interlocking, scribe fit log construction. Log Building Standards
are revised by the ILBA Building Standards Committee. Changes
to this edition were made in January, 2000.
The ILBA has endeavored to prepare this publication
based on the best information available to the Association.
While it is believed to be accurate, this information should

principles that allow the use of new materials and new construction

and complies with the intent of the provisions of these standards
and that the material, method or work offered is, for the
purposes intended, at least the equivalent of that prescribed
in these Standards in suitability, strength, effectiveness,
fire resistance, durability, safety and sanitation.
